This page is intended to put forth solutions which were provided to our customers to meet certain needs.  In some cases there may be a longer explanation or diagrams, in others we may just post simple requirements and solutions.

OKLAHOMA STATE UNIVERSITY, IT DEPARTMENT

Challenge:
The customer's environment involved running an Extron high-end video matrix switch to feed a projection screen in a university lecture hall. Connected to the video matrix switch were both a Windows 7 system and a Mac Mini.

The issue that the customer was noticing was every 3-4 times they switched ports, the computer's resolution would revert back to a default of 1024x768, and would not then display their optimal higher resolution. It was determined that the EDID information was not being effectively communicated between the projector and the systems connected to the Extron switch.

Action:
The customer updated the installation environment by installing VGA-EDID emulators to provide full-time EDID information to the connected systems, to avoid any confusion on the system end, and subsequent reversion to the lower resolution.

Resolution:
The customer is now able to switch between multiple computers, which maintain the optimal resolution for their connection projectors, without the systems reverting to a low resolution when EDID information is undetected.

Feedback:
“They are working great for me. They are allowing the Windows 7 computers that are housed in each of our classroom computer carts to reliably switch between it and the MacMini without adjusting the display resolution.” --Dustin, I.T. Dept, Oklahoma State University

UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA, ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT

Challenge:
The athletic department at University of Virginia requires 2 systems to be hooked up at each of their ticketing booths, one for their in-house event ticketing and one for their ticketmaster system.  Their in-house units are running Windows 7, and subsequently with their existing KVM switches were having problems with re-detecting EDID data every time the computer goes to sleep and then awakes. This adjusts the resolution of the display every time making it a big hassle.

Action:
Customer started using ConnectPRO KVM with all time active DDC support.

Resolution:
Customer can now keep the same resolution even if the computer goes to sleep. When it awakes, it’s still on the right resolution without re-calibrating. The all-time DDC (Data Display Channel) makes this possible since there is constant communication between the computer and the display.

Feedback:
“the video information active, even when the computers go into ‘sleep’ mode, so when waking them up, getting the correct resolution isn’t a problem.” --Howard, I.T. Dept, University of Virginia

SAGE

Challenge:
With the customer's initial configuration, they had dozens of USB KVM Switches deployed throughout their company.  For the most part this solution worked well for them, but over time they were faced with some isolated, yet recurring, incidents which remained unresolved.  They also started to develop needs that weren't being met with their current solution.

Problems with initial USB KVM switch:

No hot-keys
Isolated incidents: losing keyboard and mouse when switching back to a port
Isolated incidents: hanging at BIOS splash screen
Interest in moving to DVI  (Customer was at the time purchasing new Dell Optiplex and Precision systems which featured DisplayPort outs, but include DisplayPort to DVI adapters

Action:
Upgraded customer to UD-12+ KVM switch.

Resolution:
Satisfaction achieved through:

Solid Build Quality
Hot-keys controls function well
Switching is noticeably faster with PLUS version
No problem with image quality
Supports 1920x1440
